Jupiter 20151219

Jupiter 20151219

Went out twice this morning… first time between 04:55 and 05:04.. haze and cloud moving in, good gusts of wind that moved the scope.

Went out again later when it cleared a little more, between 05:54 and 06:02 EST

still windy but better transparency.

Here is the animated result of the only 8 good image runs I got this morning. had to throw some out as the scope moved in the wind and Jupiter went out of frame or partially out of frame. The stacking software does not like that very much.
20cm SC at f20 (with x2 barlow), asi 120mc camera doing 60 second runs, used best 10% of the frames with autostakkert! and registax for wavelets.

That is the moon Io on the left with its shadow on Jupiter, north is up, rotation is left to right.
The Great Red Spot is just leaving on the right.

Jupiter moves in the latter half as this was a combination of different image sizes and I had to manually crop them all down to 512×408 pixels to make the animation work, so it bounces around a bunch.

In the 2nd half, I do not see Io on the face of Jupiter, but it is there.
I also used two versions of firecapture this morning, as it seemed the 2.5.0.2 beta was having trouble keeping up at low frame rates (I save across the network to a file server). I am wondering if I should get a bigger SSD drive and save locally on the laptop. The existing drive is only 120GB and is only 30GB free or so, only enough for maybe 10-15 runs.
