{"id":2054,"date":"2011-08-24T08:31:31","date_gmt":"2011-08-24T12:31:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/starlightcascade.ca\/blog\/?p=2054"},"modified":"2011-08-27T09:15:10","modified_gmt":"2011-08-27T13:15:10","slug":"charleston-lake-star-gaze-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starlightcascade.ca\/blog\/2011\/08\/charleston-lake-star-gaze-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Charleston Lake Star Gaze 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We just returned (early) from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ontarioparks.com\/english\/char.html\" target=\"_blank\">Charleston Lake Provincial Park<\/a> (Ontario), from a<br \/>\ncouple of days of camping and from attending <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Terence_Dickinson\">Terence Dickinson&#8217;s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skynews.ca\/\">(Skynews Magazone)<\/a>  26th!<br \/>\nCharleston Lake Provincial Park Star Event.<\/p>\n<p>It was nice to have it on a Saturday this year, as in past years it had<br \/>\nbeen all over the weekdays and made it that much more difficult to<br \/>\nattend if one had to work the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>The forecast on Saturday morning was for SUN and 29 degrees.  Mid<br \/>\nafternoon the lightning, thunder and rains appeared.  Good thing we had<br \/>\nalready come back off the lake canoeing for several hours.<br \/>\nIt stopped long enough for dinner and Terence&#8217;s talk from 8:30-9:30 pm but<br \/>\nthe clouds did not go away.  The star gazing portion after the talk was<br \/>\na no go and we headed back to camp, and around midnight the skies opened<br \/>\nup again with rain and lightning and thunder.  Off and on most of the<br \/>\nnight so at daybreak we broke camp and headed home.<\/p>\n<p>Terence gave a good show again, involving the young kids in the almost<br \/>\ncapacity crowd in the park amphitheatre.  The talk was aimed at nature,<br \/>\nlight pollution and some basic questions of scale.<\/p>\n<p>Charleston Lake in general is in a good dark sky area but still there<br \/>\nare more trees than ever for limiting available horizon.
