Back home and this past Monday night August 24th was clear and cool and with few mosquitos.  So we went out!<\/p>\n<p>Both Kim &#038; I visusally observed a -6 to -8 fireball around 21:15 EDT<br \/>\nin the west, right along the line of the big dipper handle arcing to<br \/>\nArcturus but heading straight down into the west.<br \/>\nThe cool thing is that the allsky camera got it too.<br \/>\nThis was a 120 second exposure but the camera seemed to be cycling<br \/>\nbetting exposures and only caught the last part of the burn, as we<br \/>\nsaw it starting an equivalent amount above the<br \/>\nline\/arc\/Arcturus\/Dipper.<a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/sco-20090824_2115_38.fireball.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/sco-20090824_2115_38.fireball.jpg\" alt=\"sco-20090824_2115_38.fireball\" title=\"sco-20090824_2115_38.fireball\" width=\"300\"  class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-609\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another highlight was observing Neptune in 10&#215;50 binocs and 17&#215;80<br \/>\nbinocs.  It&#8217;s position in the star field made its mag 7.8 easy to<br \/>\npick out by star hopping inside the single field of view of both<br \/>\nsets.  Lots of easy guide stars.<\/p>\n<p>That and a lot of images taken with our canon camera with 64 sec exposures:<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_9754.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_9754.jpg\" alt=\"img_9754\" title=\"img_9754\" width=\"200\"  class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-610\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSagittarius and the centre of the Milky Way Galaxy looking south over the Observatory.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_9758.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_9758.jpg\" alt=\"img_9758\" title=\"img_9758\" width=\"200\"  class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-611\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nJupiter in the SouthEast over Kingston.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_9761.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/img_9761.jpg\" alt=\"img_9761\" title=\"img_9761\" width=\"200\"  class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-612\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nCassiopeia, Perseus and the Andromeda Galaxy in the Northwest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve been away for a while and did not get a chance to observe at all during that time.
