{"id":6083,"date":"2014-12-16T07:23:36","date_gmt":"2014-12-16T11:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/starlightcascade.ca\/blog\/?p=6083"},"modified":"2014-12-19T10:40:47","modified_gmt":"2014-12-19T14:40:47","slug":"the-hobbit-has-arrived-or-will-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starlightcascade.ca\/blog\/2014\/12\/the-hobbit-has-arrived-or-will-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"The Hobbit has arrived&#8230; or will soon!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The last of three parts to the Tolkien work &#8220;The Hobbit&#8221; will be arriving in<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3866\" src=\"http:\/\/starlightcascade.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/the-hobbit-banner1-299x193.jpg\" alt=\"the-hobbit-banner1\" width=\"299\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/starlightcascade.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/the-hobbit-banner1-299x193.jpg 299w, https:\/\/starlightcascade.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/the-hobbit-banner1-150x97.jpg 150w, https:\/\/starlightcascade.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/the-hobbit-banner1.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>theatres this week.<\/p>\n<p>We have prepared by rewatching parts 1 and 2, namely\u00a0<i><a title=\"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Hobbit:_An_Unexpected_Journey\">An Unexpected Journey<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Hobbit:_The_Desolation_of_Smaug\">The Desolation of Smaug<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p>over the last week. \u00a0It was good because over the course of two years, it is easy to forget a lot of the detail I suspect we will need to know for the last installment. \u00a0They were good albeit overly long. \u00a0Goodness knows how long part 3 will be\u00a0<i><a title=\"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Hobbit:_The_Battle_of_the_Five_Armies\">The Battle of the Five Armies<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Updated: 2014Dec19<\/p>\n<p>well. \u00a0we saw it.. opening night. \u00a0in plain old 2D. \u00a0The house was almost full and at the end a small scattering \u00a0of applause&#8230; and not much else.<\/p>\n<p>Generally it was ok, maybe even good. \u00a0But not great. \u00a0Disappointing in many ways. \u00a0Overly long to be sure. \u00a0Glaring subplots which could have been removed wholesale.<\/p>\n<p>OK we saw it once. \u00a0Maybe there will be a Directors Cut of the whole 3 movies pared down into just one movie of middl&#8217;n length.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The last of three parts to the Tolkien work &#8220;The Hobbit&#8221; will be arriving in theatres this week.
