We’ve been on time-of-use electricity use billing for some months now, and subscribed to the HydroOne account system where we can monitor power usage on an hour by hour basis.
Too bad it is 2-3 days behind reality and it is often hard to remember that far back to a specific hour to see what it was that you may have been doing at that time.
In general however, it is very nice to have more information about our own power use and over the last few months have altered our behaviour and usage to the best of our ability.
On a good day, we seem to be able to limit daily use to under 30kwh.
In the last month or so (hard to tell if the info is for a full month or part of their billing month), we’ve used 1025 kwh or 1.025 mwh
at a cost of $70 some dollars. But then you add on delivery charges, taxes and other charges and pretty soon you are up to $200 or 20 cents/kwh. We’ll refine that over the next couple of days.
Quite a difference than the posted power-only charts they publicize a lot:
Off-Peak 5.9 07:00 PM-07:00 AM weekdays and all weekend
Mid-Peak 8.9 07:00 AM-11:00 AM and 05:00 PM-07:00 PM weekdays
On-Peak 10.7 11:00 AM-05:00 PM weekdays
No air conditioning is in use at all. Just the regular household appliances and stuff.
