The first meeting of the season for The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada – Kingston Centre, was held Monday evening September 17th, 2012 from 7-9pm in Ellis Hall Room 324 at Queen’s University.
A survey was mailed out in the summer asking members for the best night of the week for attending a meeting, as Saturdays had very poor attendance for the last year, and the winner was the 3rd Monday of the month.
So there will be meetings on Monday Sept 17th, October 15th, November 19th, January 21st 2013, February 18th, March 18th, May 20th and June 17th. December 2012 and April 2013 dates fall into the University Exam times and we will not be meeting there. Instead an alternative will be announced, perhaps a different location, perhaps a different event (like a dinner).
A good turnout of members and guests came out and we were pleased. Next month will be more advertising as well.
Our experiments with anymeeting.com to broadcast the meeting on the internet and record it for future viewing went badly with the new wireless microphone not getting audio to the broadcast. Eventually sound came up. More experiments before the October meeting!
A wide range of presentations fitting into the “what I did last summer” were given and with the expanded time format (120 minutes instead of 75), there was no rush.
