Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy
Another cold night but at least it cleared.
This is Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy on the evening of Monday 2015 January 12th around 19:29EST taken with a Canon Powershot ELPH 120IS camera on a tripod. It is a 15 second exposure at ISO 1600 and very wide angle, showing the Hyades (lower left) and the Pleiades (upper central) at approx 8.6 mm focal length. It was about -10C with a good stiff wind from the north at the time.
This has been a great comet, becoming naked eye in the dark country skies a few days ago. Too bad it has become -28C this morning and will stay that way for a couple of days. It would be nice to get the telescope imager up and running but this weather and temperature is just not conducive anymore.
I am currently interviewing people who have built small observatories in preparation for creating a handbook for the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada on the subject of small observatory projects. Would you be willing to speak to me about your Starlight Cascade observatory project? My centre is in the process of completing its own small observatory: You can check out our progress on our web site: http://www.coastastronomy.ca
