And every year we try to create or renovate a flower garden bed around the property. This year we decided to enhance the back yard with this 100′ long berm. We added just under a yard of garden earth to it, transplanted ten tiger lillies and then added in 100 iris bulbs, in 25 groups of 4.

Initially they were not planted deep enough, so each planting of 4 bulbs (a few inches apart) received another shovelfull of earth on top of it. Then watered. Then covered in chicken wire weighed down by rocks.

Since we have such an aggressive chipmunk, squirrel, rabbit and deer population, it was covered in chicken wire until the spring. Come spring the chicken wire will be removed and we should have a great flower bed.
