The 2024 Garlic crop has been planted. Kim did about 8 hours of prep with cracking the bulbs into cloves, planning, marking bags, getting the spreadsheet uptodate and more. I spend a couple of hours adding in compost and tilling it into the soil.

This is our raised vegbed #2, about 4’x24′ = 96ft^2.
We planted approx 57 rows of 6 = 342 garlic cloves here.
We have a home made dibbler which pokes 6 holes in a row, 5″ apart and 5.5″ deep with a 1.5″ hole.
The cloves go in, the soil is raked over the holes and then we lay down straw to keep direct sunlight off the ground and add a little bit of insulation.

The remainder went into vegbed #5, a much larger area.

subbed 5-1 = 37 rows * 6 = 222 cloves
subbed 5-2 33 rows * 6 = 198 cloves
subbed 5-3 25 rows * 6 = 150 cloves
subtotals 342 + 222 + 198 + 150 = 912
These two beds were completed in about 4 hours on a warm Saturday morning.
