Up and out early last Wednesday morning (2025 July 02) around 04:00 edt (008:00 utc) to catch the shadow of the Saturnian moon Titan transitting across the surface of Saturn.
This is the 2nd last imaging run of 31 runs, taken at 05:14 edt.. well into dawn (had to stop!).
The white balance goes to poo this much into daylight, but the event still goes on!
Altitude was still low at 41 degrees, no Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector was used (yet!), seeing was poor, transparency was poor. Firecapture with an ROI of 600×600 and cutoutbox of 400×400 was used to capture approx 6k frames for each run. The rings are still at a very narrow angle and not very visible at all. If you crank up the gamma you can make them out.

Garlic Harvest 2025

The 2025 Garlic Harvest has been complete. Records were kept but not yet transcribed as to the total amount.
They are now hanging up to dry in a cool, dark, well ventilated space… the garage.
New this year is an overhead fan running 24/7… It seemed to be doing a much better job and drying out the garlic faster than in the past.
One week has gone by and there is next to no green left in the leaves.
Also new this year was a stinging bees nest underground.. in the garlic patch!
We had to dress up to harvest those bulbs!

Not quite beekeepers outfits but close enough!
Anecdotally (and before we further process the garlic, measure and weigh it), the bulbs in the raised beds did not seem to do as well as in the main garden beds. Both had drip irrigation running every day for the last two months and both have similar soils (we finally had them all tested… pH was a little off but otherwise the soil is great!)
The Greenhouse is Dead! Long live the Greenhouse!
Or words to that affect.
So.. the old greenhouse was demolished over the course of 3 weeks, cut up and disposed of in a dumpster.
The 10’x10′ cloth shed with no roof was moved to a new location with a foundation of 4″ of dirt, a weed barrier and then some pressure treated wood framing around the base, with a bunch of gravel up against it.
It took about 3 weeks to:
tighten and add nuts and bolts;
add more roof supports (tie down straps);
add duct tape to all the joints;
build a frame for the front and back walls;
order UV greenhouse plastic x2 (one for roof and one for both ends);
put the plastic over the top, leaving a 3′ spacing for ventilation;
added metal insect screening for the bottom vents;
staple then strap the plastic;
add screen door to front, vented window to rear;
And here is the result… maybe $300 of supplies after reusing the original metal cloth shed frame

We built 2’x8’x36″ high work tables and surfaced them with 1/2″ hardware cloth 24″ wide, nailed down with fencing nails.
We moved an old plant stand into the back to hold additional items
two pallets under the left side tables for storage
created a bed of dirt under the right side table for fall crops
added a lee valley 33% shade insect net… still the temperature hit 47C yesterday in our 4th heat wave of the summer.
will be looking for more shade netting to increase that percentage.
There is still a lot of work to do… before fall and cold temperatures:
add a solid door to the front;
add a closed window to the back
