The long weekend in May is fast approaching, the traditional time to move the plants out of the greenhouse and house and into the ground.
The portable heater combined with a plastic housing directly around the greenhouse racks has kept the plants from freezing and we haven’t lost any except to a family of mice earlier on back in April.
The last week has seen us busily prepping the garden beds.
Veg 1 has fall garlic planted so not much to do there
Veg 2 had dirt and sheep manure added and roto-tilled in

Veg 3 has a portable cedar cold frame with lettuce and outside of that some peas growing well.
Veg 4A is vacant and has had dirt and sheep manure added and roto-tilled in
Veg 4B is vacant and has had dirt and sheep manure added
Veg 4C is a new 200 ft^2 raised bed garden with a lot of dirt and sheep manure added. This one was just completed last night with a cedar arbour and a gravel pathway.
Work continues on building a deer fence around the entire Veg4 complex. Last year there wasn’t a week that went by without hoof prints in the garden and missing plants. This year we are putting up 4×4 posts in concrete around the perimeter and adding on a Lee Valley 7′ high nylon deer fence. Three posts are in place now with two more going in tonight and the remainder later on in the week.
