Here it is the end of October and our garlic has not yet been planted. The pressure is mounting and the time is growing short.
This two week trend forecast from the Weather Network shows a little cold spell this weekend but then rebounding for at least a couple of weeks.
In preparation for the ongoing cool/cold weather, we have covered up the garden plots where the garlic will be going, to minimize frost effects on the ground temperature, and to help dry it out a bit, as the ground is quite wet at the moment.
We plan on moving from 49 types of garlic planted last year up to 69 this year, with a minimum of 6 plants of each type. That will take us up to somewhere around 414… but wait! There’s more! On many varieties we plan on planting at least 12 plants… We will probably tip over the 500 mark this year.
